Banner Tutorial

For anyone that knows anything about desktop publishing or graphical design I’m sure you know far more about this than me, so please just ignore this tutorial!

This is banner design in its simplest form! For those however who maybe have a website, which is designed by someone else and you just though it might be worth giving this site a go please read on……

Please note that this tutorial is based in Windows XP as that it all I have access to. Please feel free to write tutorials for other programs/platforms and if they make sense I’ll host them on here (could be a good advert for a design company)!

  1. Open up Microsoft Paint (yes I told you it was basic). To do this click on the ‘start button’ at the bottom left of your screen. Select “all programs”, then select ‘accessories’ and click on ‘Paint’.
  2. The program Microsoft Paint should now load.
  3. At the top of the program in black writing is the drop down menu ‘image’.
  4. Click ‘image’ and select ‘Attributes’.
  5. The ‘Attributes’ box will now popup. In the ‘width’ box type ‘800’ and in the ‘height’ box type ‘100’. This is the size of your banner. Ensure that ‘pixels’ is selected in the units box and ‘colours’ is selected in the colours box.
  6. Now click ‘OK’ and you will return to the main screen. The white area is your canvas and represents your banner. Now using the tools on the side you can create your banner. I’m not going to go through all the tools (boxes on the left) if you hover your cursor over each tool its description is displayed. For the simplest banner you can just fill the banner with a colour of your choice (using the fill tool) and then using the text tool write your company name, or website etc. You can basically make it as impressive as you like.
  7. To save your banner click the ‘file’ drop down menu at the top of the screen and click ‘save as’.
  8. Select somewhere to save it on your computer that you will be able to find again when you want to upload it to theonebigad.com. If you’re not sure just put it on the desktop.
  9. Choose an appropriate file name
  10. The finally in the drop down box labelled ‘save as type’ ensure you select ‘JPEG (*.JPG;*JPEG;*JPE;*JFIF) and then click save.
  11. You can now go to the submit banner page and make your payment through PayPal which will take you through to the banner submission page where you can click submit and I’ll receive it in my Inbox, it’s as simple as that!

If you have any problems with this please email me at richard@theonebigad.com and I’ll try and help the best I can.
