Who are you?
I’m Rich Stratton, I’m 22 and I have just left university. I live in England in a tiny village in the county of Essex. It is literally tiny, we have a post box (mail box) a telephone box (yes one of those red ones) and about 10 other houses, oh and a lot of fields!

How does it work?
Basically there are two parts to this site.
By submitting your company or business’s banner on this website for US $10 your banner will be entered into the database. Each day one of these banners will be selected at random to be displayed prominently twice on every page of this website.
Once the total number of applicants gets to 100,000 then one of these companies is selected at random. This selected company will receive advertising funding up to $250,000, to enable the company to embark on the ultimate advertising campaign.

Why are you doing this?
Well basically I have just dislocated my hip. This happened a couple of weeks ago I am now moving (be it slowly) on crutches, but I am spending a lot of time sitting around doing nothing so I thought I’d have a crack at web design and design this site which is something I have been thinking about for a while. I hit upon the idea that there must be so many other small businesses and companies out there that are just trying to promote themselves and hence I came up with theonebigad.com; basically the chance to give your business the ultimate publicity for only $10.
Unlike most of my friends who have gone straight into careers I have decided to try and fulfil my lifetime ambition and setup my own business. I’ve had a website created (for my other business) and have been trying to promote it. It was at this point that I suddenly realised that despite the easy accessibility of the internet it’s actually quite difficult and most importantly expensive to get your website noticed. This isn’t helped by the fact that after leaving university I have nearly £10,000 or roughly US $19,300 of debt. So I don’t really want to go to the bank and borrow a large amount of money in the hope that my business might work!
I was doing any work I could to get some money, the majority of which was going straight back into my business in an attempt to promote it. Now obviously with my dislocated hip, work etc has all stopped. Hopefully if this site was to work it might provide me with a little cash to keep living and most importantly help me promote my company!

What will $250,000 get me?
Basically a huge amount! Your company would be able to have a TV advertising campaign produced and shown on a major network! The potential for any company is huge here, from a tiny gardening business right up to a large multinational company; this prize could completely change your business! I quite like the idea of a tiny company getting major TV adverts! Of course if this site is successful the media and publicity the winning company receives would be huge!
If you’re a TV advertising production company email me and tell me what you are willing to offer for $250,000. The best company has the potential to get huge publicity itself from working on this project!

What happens if it doesn’t get to $1,000,000?
After 1 year from the launch date so (April 4th 2008) if the total hasn’t been reached then the company selected at random will receive advertising to the cost of 25% of the total sales received from this site.

Can I enter more than once?
Yes, sure! I need as much help as I can get! Every entry gives you a greater chance of being the overall winner and having your banner appearing on the top and bottom of every page of this site!

Why should I do it?
Your business can advertise on TV, a total and distant dream for the vast majority of businesses in this world! The potential for press coverage, interviews and television shows for the winner also could be incredible if this site is successful. Equally the ability to have your link on several pages of this website is worth far in excess of $10 on its own!

Do I need a PayPal account?
No not at all. To pay just go to the Buy Now page and click 'I agree' to the terms and conditions (as long as you do!) you will then be presented with a page with a PayPal button on it. Clicking the button will take you to a safe a secure PayPal gateway, provided by PayPal that way I don't see any of your account details. Once there if you are a member of PayPal you can login as normal, if not you just scroll to the bottom of the page click 'continue' and follow the instructions. Once completed you will be directed to the banner upload page to send your banner to me. I'll then get an email in my inbox and I'll upload your banner it's as simple as that.

Why do you use PayPal ?
To put it simply, PayPal spend millions on their security and even if I spent months designing a payment system it still wouldn't be half as safe as theirs. I feel strongly that credit card and personal details are best left to the professionals, so, all payments go through PayPal allowing your details to stay safe and I then incur all the charges so the $10 submission is all you pay.
